Is it only frozen snow bringing cold and ice,
Or a kingdom that glistens with crystal?
Do you see the purple flower so soft and nice,
Or is your mind only on the thistle?
Do the birds in the trees make sounds that please,
Or a noise that distracts and offends you?
Does the smoke from leaves make you wheeze and sneeze,
Or does the aroma make old memories new?
When the climb to the top makes you want to drop,
Do you complain or enjoy the high scene?
Does the fireplace imply, there will be wood to chop,
Or a colorful and warming machine?
When the rain comes down, do you sit with a frown,
Or picture the tulips to come?
Do you enjoy all the people who live in your town,
Or do you think they are snooty and dumb?
Does the moon in the sky bring a tear to your eye,
Or is it a light that keeps you awake?
And when leaves start to fall, do their colors enthrall,
Or can you only think of the rake?
When you see wild things, do you run for your gun,
Or stop and watch as they pass?
Do you enjoy hearing children play in the sun,
Or are they all just ruining your grass?
Is your neighbor a person that you must impress,
Or someone to call on in need?
Do you think only of buying a suit or new dress,
Or ponder the poor we must feed?
Do the aches in the morning seem like a warning,
Or a sign that you've seen a new day?
Do you find you are ornery and constantly scorning,
Or is life an exciting and wonderful play?
Is the way we believe then the way we perceive
What is good or bad in this world?
Or do we act naive as our own minds we deceive,
When our oyster is preciously pearled?
When that child inside first tells you " I'm Alive! "
What kind of future will you see?
For only you can decide, should this child survive,
The most beautiful being to be!
