The Business Trip

    Frank and I sat talking
When the work day was done
He told me about his family
I mentioned my daughter and son

    The conversation was informal
And it drifted like a leaf
That had fallen on the water
    With a lazy stream beneath

The sun was soon to leave us
    As it always did before
We knew the day had slipped away
    to be seen no more

    We talked about the movies
    The poets and our lives
We even mentioned God I think
    And of course our wives

    I felt a little forlorn
As my brief case I did pack
Then Frank took me to the airport
    For my airborne journey back'

    Our business will be forgotten
    When today becomes the past
    But that quiet conversation
    I know will somehow last

    Perhaps the really important things
Worth a little of your time
Are not always the same kind of things
That turn a nickel to a dime

So let's give our selves a chance
Before our paths are forced apart
To see the love and kindness
    Found in every human heart
