The Bug And The Flea

    " We can make a difference! "
Said the bug to the flea
" The world will change a little
Just because of you and me. "

" What ever could you do
    In a universe so vast?
Bugs have never done a thing
In all the years gone past. "

The tiny bug pondered his fate
As he nibbled on his leaf
And then turning to face the flea
He said " It's my belief

    That all of my ancestors
    Were eaten by the birds
That spread the seeds, that became trees
    To shade the roaming herds.

Without us bugs there would be no shade
And the grass would not grow.
The earth would be a barren waste
All these things I know. "

The flea snickered, then laughed out loud
" Why your nothing but a bug!
The way you talk the whole wide world
should stop and give you a hug!

Well I've got to go and do my job. "
Was the last thing the flea did say
And off he flew to find some dog
To make him scratch his day away.

The bug walked on in silence
And as he walked he thought
His life would make a difference
He would not live for naught.

Even if he became a meal
    For some young feathered thing
His life would have been spent
So one more bird could sing.
